Installation in open area necessary

I'm writing this review after about 1.5 years of use. As others have mentioned, this subwoofer runs hot. This was one of the smaller units I could find that would fit under the seat of a 2018 wrx. It's a tight fit and is directly in front of the a/c vent. In fact I had to elevate the amp about an inch in order prevent the vent from being blocked completely. I keep the amp gain set about 1/3 the range of the dial and If I don't run a/c on max to the foot area, it will overheat when playing loud after about 30 minutes. Even less time during the winter with the heat on, and even worse on hot days. You might want this so you can hear your music with the windows open during the summer. Not if it's hot out you won't.There is very little in the way of cooling built into this amp/sub. The components are thermal glued to the inside of the case to dissipate the heat, no cooling fins, no ducting, nothing. You NEED a lot of open area for this to properly cool itself. This would probably do better behind seats in the cab of a pickup than it does under any seat. After a year and a half, the amp failed on me. It immediately faults into protection mode after playing for less than a second. I was unable to pinpoint the exact failure, though it smells like electrical burning, soI'm certain it is due to overheating. Either the thermocouple failed or there is solder that melted and is shorting a connection somewhere. I believe that if I had installed this in a more open location, it would not have failed how it did.Otherwise, considering the price point this is a great little all in one sub and would bet the perfect addition for a factory upgrade or to support a mid-level stereo build. It won't produce earth-shaking lows but it's audio range is pretty wide for being a small unit. I'm using it with a Chinese Android head unit and it was easy to setup and install. The head unit plays well with the amp as you would expect of any other amp/sub. It does distort when turning up to high gain, some of the distortion I experienced may be due to the head unit build quality. The only audio issue you'll run into is trying to have it play the extremes of it's frequency range, tight mid/high bass and deep lows at one setting. It's one or the other, or limit the range and power of both. This is more a result of the size of the speaker and enclosure than the amp or speaker design itself. The remote knob helps mitigate this, but it doesn't completely negate it.If it didn't have the cooling issues or I had a better location to install this, I would buy it again. It's just not the correct subwoofer for my application how I use the sub. For someone putting this in the trunk of a small vehicle or using it in an open cabin like a SUV or a large cab truck it's perfect. It would probably be a great addition to a ATV, golf cart, or other outdoor recreation vehicle.

Buy two

I love them. Not huge like bass boxes. Wiring is so easy my 14 year old hooked up the second one. Thanks for the awesome powered subs. Next getting door speakers.

On time delivery and well made.

Entirely adequate for most peoples needs at a fair price. I have to keep the remote gain knob near minimum to keep the bass from overpowering the music. 3 thumbs up.

Not strong

This isn't strong, and the wiring plug is kind of goofy, but it sounds pretty decent. If you want powerful bass, this is not for you,
