XED Subwoofer - FAQ
Q1: What product categories are in the Cerwin-Vega XED subwoofer line & target users?
A: The XED subwoofer lineup covers 3 categories: bare drivers, factory-tuned loaded enclosures, and all-in-one amp+box combo kits, with only 10” & 12” single 4Ω voice coils.
Bare subs: XED10V2 (10” 4Ω), XED12V2 (12” 4Ω), for DIY custom enclosure builders;
Loaded vented boxes: XE10SV single 10”, XE10DV dual 10”, pre-tuned MDF cabinet, ready for wiring;
Complete bass packages: XEDBP10/XEDBP12 (single box + XED3001D mono amp), CVPMXE10/CVPMXE12 dual subs with compact CVPM amp, full wiring & bass knob included for plug-and-play beginners.
Budget entry-level series for first-time bass upgrade, daily sedans & SUVs, ideal for pop, hip-hop & light EDM, not designed for extreme SPL competition.
Q2: Construction & sound characteristics, difference vs HED subs?
A: Build features: Curvilinear polypropylene cone, stitched high-roll foam surround, bumped back plate for extra excursion, ferrite magnet, vented stamped steel basket with low-distortion tuning.
Signature tight Cerwin-Vega bass with fast transient response. Vented boxes deliver deeper sub-bass; sealed enclosures offer punchy, clean low end with minimal mud at high volumes.
Difference from HED: All XED are single voice coil for simple wiring & small entry amps; HED offers DVC dual coil options with higher power handling for low-impedance loud builds. XED provides ready-to-install complete kits while most HED units are sold separately without enclosures.
Q3: Power & impedance specs, matching amplifiers?
A: Bare Driver Ratings
XED10V2: 225W RMS / 800W Peak, single 4Ω
XED12V2: 300W RMS / 1000W Peak, single 4Ω
Factory Loaded Box Impedance
XE10SV single sub 2Ω, XE10DV dual parallel 2Ω
Matching Amps
XED3001D mono Class D: 300W RMS @ 2Ω, fits all single/dual XED enclosures;
CVPM1000.1D compact mono amp: High peak power for CVPMXE dual sub packages.
All XED drivers are single 4Ω only; no multi-sub low-impedance parallel setups recommended for competition amplifiers.
Q4: Custom enclosure volumes & benefits of factory-loaded boxes?
A: Recommended Custom Cabinets
10”: Sealed 0.7–1.0 cu.ft | Ported 1.1–1.5 cu.ft
12”: Sealed 1.2–1.6 cu.ft | Ported 1.7–2.2 cu.ft
Minimum 16mm MDF panels with internal bracing to eliminate rattle.
Factory enclosure advantages: 3/4” thick high-density MDF, automotive carpet upholstery, pre-calibrated port tuning, saves measurement & construction labour; dual-sub cabinets deliver fuller bass for large trunk space.
Q5: Installation, tuning baseline & maintenance tips?
A: 1. Installation: All kits include a wired remote bass knob for dash-level adjustment; secure the enclosure firmly to avoid road vibration noise.
2. Standard tuning preset: Subsonic filter 25–30Hz, low-pass crossover 80–100Hz, flip the 0/180° phase switch to cancel cabin bass, bass boost limited to 0–6dB.
3. Maintenance: Avoid continuous distorted full-volume playback to prevent surround ageing; keep cabinets away from moisture, leave motor vent holes unblocked for consistent cooling.
